It's been just over a week since I lost Celine and it's been weird adjusting to a life without cats. For so long I was trained to feed them first thing in the morning and again at around 6 pm. I still find myself thinking, "Oh! It's almost 6!" and then remembering I don't actually have to do anything. I am enjoying the fact that I can utilize my entire queen-sized bed without sharing half of it. Doesn't matter how small cats are, they seem to take a disproportionate amount of space on a bed!

This past Friday was Bandcamp Friday. If you are unfamiliar with that, it's a day where Bandcamp gives the artists 100% of the revenue from music sales. I used this opportunity to clear out some items from my wishlist into my collection. Mostly different flavors of electronic with some random soul, disco, garage rock and Polish blues.

I feel like I've turned a corner on my interminable cross-stitch project that I've been working on for years. You can see my last progress photo on the Cross Stitch page. I've finished the flowers at the bottom and all I have left to do is: the white checkerboard pattern along the edges, fill in with black between the flowers and the checkerboard and some details on the cat, and then an outer layer of gray. That's all! I feel like I've come so far and I'm almost there!

Reading

I updated my reading log with April's entries. You can find that in the Library. My favorite reads last month were The Kamogawa Food Detectives and The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi. Currently I'm reading The Spear Cuts Through Water by Simon Jimenez and it is one crazy, wild ride! Very interesting way of putting together the dialogue.

Watching

I finished The Durrells of Corfu on PBS. At first I felt like it was just a series about a mother and her horrible, out of control children inflicting themselves on the inhabitants of Corfu but it ended up being a generally very sweet and lovely story. It's based on real events - the series is adapted from books written by the youngest son who became quite well known in the conservation world. There is a follow-up piece (which is no longer on PBS - I had to search for it elsewhere) called What the Durrells Did Next and the children all lead very interesting lives except possibly the second son who seems to have not been so close with the family.

I binged Mr Bates vs the Post Office, which I initially wasn't even going to watch because I didn't think I'd be interested in it. Boy, was I wrong! If you want to get mad about something, watch this show. It's just crazy. And it's still not completely resolved!

Right now I'm watching We Were the Lucky Ones on Hulu. It's about a Polish Jewish family and their struggles to survive WW2 and reunite afterwards. I've just finished the first episode and have 3 more to go.

I think that's it for now. Until next week!
