I think after this week we could all use some cozy goodness.
- Close Knit - This was created for the Safe In Our World Mental Health Game Dev Champions 2024 game jam. The devs describe it as,
"we wrote about impostor syndrome, returning to a place you once knew, and learning to create out of love and not for validation."
I haven't played this myself, only watched the trailer, but it looks really cute and cozy. - The Quilt Index - From the site's About section:
The Quilt Index, originally launched in 2003, is an open access, digital repository of thousands of images, stories and information about quilts and their makers drawn from hundreds of public and private collections around the world.
There is an incredible amount of information in the quilt entries plus it's just really cool to look at all the different patterns and colors. - Narby Pompom Cat Hat - Catventurous Crochet - I found out about this from reading this article, Why Scientists Are Crocheting Adorable Wool Hats for Cats. I actually have a link to another set of cat hat crochet instructions in case you get motivated and want to crochet all the cat hats.
Well!
So that happened.
What the hell.
There's been a lot written about this and I'm not going to go too much into it here. I feel like I'm in a priviledged position as a white, cisgender, past childbearing, gainfully employed with a job that can't be outsourced, middle-aged woman. But there are a whole lot of people near and dear to me who are going to be suffering and it just tears me up and makes me feel so angry and helpless. I have never gotten overwrought about elections but as I was driving to work on Wednesday, I just started crying. What can you do?
This article has some good advice on things you can do and mindsets you can form. And I found comfort from this video response from Senator Elizabeth Warren.
Reading, Watching, Doing
I tried catching up on Abbot Elementary thinking that would be something to take my mind off things but I wasn't really able to concentrate on the show so mainly this week it's been YouTube - recipes, crafting, cooking, history. Cozy-type stuff that goes down easy. The soup and crackers of media.
I've been working at crocheting. I can do the chain, then the single chain, then when I turn to do that third row, things get mucky. Not sure what I'm doing wrong but I'll keep at it. Think I'm going to switch to a larger hook and different yarn. It's been a hot minute since I've cross-stitched. My fabulous kitty has been staring at me from the living table, wondering when I'm going to pick him up again.
Mainly what I've been doing a lot of is reading. Last week when I got home from work, all I did was read. Actually, last week at work a lot of reading got done because I wasn't terribly busy. I'm now in the third book of the Last King of Osten Ard, Into the Narrowdark. This is such an awesome series. It's so nice to be able to lose myself in another world.
I did find a new thing to get into- Pixel Cat's End! It's a collectible pet game where you manage and collect a village of cat-like creatures. They only open for new players every 7 weeks and they are open now from November 10 - November 16. I have no idea what the hell I'm doing but I have a cat village with a head cat, 5 other village cats and I was gifted a kitten today. We've gone on an adventure and gathered resources and even got mail at the post office. If you end up playing this game, I'd love to have you as a friend! My profile.
I think that's about it for this week. Hugs and love to you all!
