Eyeball Ring
I know some people are creeped out by eyeballs and I didn't want this to affect anyone so open only if you dare!
Sometimes on a tiara hunt I don't come across sparkly oddities but just really weird stuff.
So, there's got to be a story behind this ring. I have no idea what it is. If you do an image search on this picture, you will come up with a lot of hits claiming this is a Victorian mourning ring. I am almost positive that's just a case of a piece of misinformation running rampant on the Internet. The ring had been listed for sale on a jeweler's site and was described as being made around 1970. I think that is the more likely story. The rest of the description from the site:
An eccentric Glass Eye ring, the 14k yellow gold band with 1" grey, green, brown and bloodshot glass eye. Not for the faint of heart. Freaky Good. Size 11.5

Was this a joke? I mean, it was set in 14K gold so it would have been an expensive piece of humor. Was it a momento? That would be kind of creepy and weird but people have all kinds of creepy weird momentos. Was someone just being terribly artistic? Would you ever wear a ring like this?
You could always go with a theme and pair this with another eyeball-like piece of jewelry, like maybe this operculum necklace from around 1900:
