- Human brain cells on a chip learned to play Doom in a week - I've posted links in the past about DOOM being played on a cooking pot and a European satellite as well as rats learning how to play DOOM. This is another entry in the seemingly never endless reports of DOOM being played on things/with things/through things.
- ONCEPOSTED - a lovely little archive of vintage postcards. From the site creator: "The front of a card shows where someone was. The back shows what they chose to say. Together, they offer a quiet glimpse into how people once moved through the world."
- Worldwide Sidewalk Joy - "Sidewalk Joy spots are free, curated installations that bring a bit of whimsy and inspiration to the community." I love this idea! Kind of like Little Free Libraries but with all sorts of other things. There are several in my area and I think I'll go on a field trip and explore some of them! Are there any trinket boxes near you that you've visited?
While ordering get out the vote postcards on Etsy I was somehow sidelined by stickers. I ended up getting a pack of dinosaur stickers, because who doesn't need dinosaur stickers, and a somewhat enigmatic sparkly sticker.
I used to collect stickers when I was a kid (as did all the other kids in my 3rd grade class). I was kind of a stupid kid, though, because I'd unpeel the stickers from the backing and stick them onto one of those old-fashioned photo album pages that had sticky lines. This, of course, meant the sticker was now a permanent part of the page. I can't remember but I guess I must have not actually traded many!
I have somehow amassed a new sticker collection in my not-so-old age. I didn't mean to, it wasn't intentional, but you know how it is - you go out to a brewery or a coffee shop, they have free stickers, you take one home! You buy something online and they send you some free stickers to go with whatever you bought. And pretty soon you go from accidental stickers to actually seeking them out. I have .... a lot of stickers. And I may have bought some more today while I was leaving reviews on Etsy for the previous batch of stickers.
I may have a problem.
Right now most of my stickers are just hanging out in baggies and envelopes but while I was ordering stuff on Etsy I also got some silicone sticker sheets. Once those come in I'm going to make an official sticker binder.
Listening
I only listened to one podcast this past week and that was Absolute Units - Who Owns England?
Reading
I finished Faces of the Dead by Chris Nickson. I am really liking this mystery series! The author just released this book, though, so I'm going to have a bit of a wait before the next one comes out. He has several other series which I think are all set in Leeds, just in different time periods. I checked out what my library had available through the Libby app and picked The Hanging Psalm, set in the 1800s. The main character grew up in a workhouse until he fled at a young age. He ended up becoming a thief-taker and making a life for himself with his wife, their twin sons and a young girl who they have taken off the streets. This book had a much darker tone but the mystery was just as good and I'm looking forward to reading more in that series.
After those back to back historical mysteries I decided to pick something off my Libby wishlist that's been there for a while, Fox and I: An Uncommon Friendship by Catherine Raven, a biologist. This is the story of her relationship with a young fox she met.
Watching
I've been keeping up with the new Matlock series. I told myself I'd wait until the season was complete so I didn't have to wait for episodes but here I am, liking it so much I just couldn't help watching it so I'm waiting for episodes. Being able to binge shows has spoiled me!
One of the people I follow on YouTube, Tim Watches Movies, has a neat little channel. His videos don't get a ton of views which makes me kind of sad because he's so passionate about movies and has a lot of good insight into them. He made a Top 10 movies of 2025 video and one of the movies on my List of Movies to Watch is on there, The Mastermind. His top movie pick of 2025 is a Chinese animated film, Nobody, and that is going on my list, too. The animation just looks so gorgeous!

The author then goes on to explain convivial tooling and how to recapture the web we want.
OK, that's it til next week!
