The Hot Dog Stand Tiara
What? Well, no, the official name isn't actually The Hot Dog Stand Tiara. BUT LOOK AT IT! If you are too young to remember Windows 3.1 color schemes, then this is what Hot Dog Stand looked like:
Some tiaras I've posted about have had very little information on them but this one is the most mysterious one of all. I originally found out about it on BarbaraAnne's Hair Comb Blog. I tried Google searching the pictures and only came up with a Pinterest pin of one her photos with no added information. I even tried TinEye and that found nothing at all. It's like the Internet's eyeballs were seared after looking at this and it wanted to forget about what made that happen.
BarbaraAnne's blog is just chock full of the most beautiful hair combs and tiaras. So what does she say of this tiara?
I wanted this. This absolutely one of the most beautiful tiaras I’ve ever seen.
Bless her heart. She's so overcome by it she forgot a word.
Anyway, she did have some information on this tiara - it is French, made in 1840 and Empire style, although I'm not quite sure what that means in tiara terms. She said it had a tortoiseshell comb attached and it sold for $787 on November 9. The blog post is from October 2009 so I think it might have been sold in 2008. She does not say who auctioned it or why she is calling it the Italian Tiara. I would wonder if it was maybe a theatrical tiara made for some opera or play but would they use real coral cameos for something like that? If it was made for an opera, then maybe it was an Italian one and that's why she's calling it The Italian Tiara? I don't know. I'm seriously grasping here.
So what are your feelings on this tiara? Or on Hot Dog Stand?
- Hot Dog Stand CSS Framework - Do you like the Hot Dog Stand color scheme? What's wrong with you? I will judge you but here's a link so you can go to town making Hot Dog Stand themed pages. You monster.
- Windows 3.1 included a red and yellow 'Hot Dog Stand' color scheme so garish it was long assumed to be a joke, so I tracked down Microsoft's original UI designer to get the true story
