Fire and Ice Tiara

The Fire and Ice Tiara is created from cultured freshwater baroque pearls, white gold and diamonds. The front portion of the tiara is a ring of jagged white gold peaks covered in small diamonds. Behind this row is a taller row of 6 irregularly-shaped baroque pearls.

Geoffrey Rowlandson was a British jeweller who operated his own store, Rowlandson's, from 1970 until he passed in 2019. His family still runs the business, designing jewelry based on his style. He specialized in using baroque pearls and allowing their shape to guide the form of the piece, like in the pieces below.

2 photos of pieces made from baroque pearls. On the left are 2 figures created from multiple baroque pearls that look like 2 ladies walking side by side with full skirts, V-shaped diamond belts, torsos with truncated arms and floppy hats. The figure on the left's hat has a white gold and diamond ribbon hanging down from the back edge. The figure on the right has 3 little feathers white gold and diamond standing upright on the front of her hat. The figure on the left is the figure of an astronaut, also made from a baroque pearl, with a silver visor and a gold pack on his back. The rest of the form he's on is gold - a ladder that he's climbing down, a rocky surface and an American flag.

The Fire and Ice Tiara seems to be the only one he created. It looks like he was more into making brooches or objets d'art. This tiara was a special creation for the ‘Tiaras: Past and Present’ exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum in 2002. It has since been sold to a private collector.

This Fellow's Auctions article on Geoffrey Rowlandson has this to say about the tiara: it "imitates the natural elements" and "...is striking for its white gold features, giving it a fierce and polished finish." Well, sure, ok, but you know what I think it looks like?

Come on, you can't tell me you don't see that, too!
