- Globe of History - This website lets you "...visualize significant events and people from the last 6,000 years of human history on an interactive map."
- Carnivorous "Death Ball" Sponge Among 30 New Deep-Sea Species From the Southern Ocean - So was that on your 2025 bingo card? Death Ball Sponge would be an excellent band name, just sayin'.
- Bluesky Thread from Sarah Taber (Farm to Taber) answering the question: "do indoor grow light farms owe a debt to the weed man?" - This was an unexpectedly interesting explanation!
Well, I have Mr. Ceelo here while his mama is out of town. He was nervous for the first few minutes after he arrived and then it's like he remembered where he was and he was completely at home! He's doing wonderfully except last night he jumped up on the bed every couple hours, singing to me for attention. He didn't do that the last 2 times he was here. Kind of hoping he got that out of his system!
On Thursday, I met a friend for lunch at a Dominican restaurant. I've had Dominican food before so it wasn't a new experience but it was delicious. Usually I'll get Mofongo de Cerdo but this time I opted for 2 empanadas (beef and chicken), a side of yuca frita (cassava fries) and a chinola (passionfruit) drink. My friend was curious about the Morir SoƱando, which translates to Die Dreaming. Our waitress brought us samples and it was really good - it's orange juice and evaporated milk which sounds gross but tastes kind of like an orange dreamsicle. But, we all really thought it was more of a dessert drink or something you'd drink on its own so my friend ended up getting a limeade instead to go with her Mofongo de Camarones.
And then on Friday I met up with Mom2 for breakfast. I always look forward to seeing her! Whenever we meet up it's always on a Friday at 9:30 at a Wildflower Bread Company restaurant that's between our houses. She did tell me that one of her dogs is going in for surgery right before Christmas so she wouldn't be going anywhere but staying home to watch him post surgery. I haven't asked Best Son yet what other plans he might have but I might do just a non-fussy ham dinner since it's either going to be just me or possibly the two of us.
For those of you, like me, who like to dive into rabbit holes of links, I thought I'd share with you the sites I regularly hit up:
- Nag on the Lake - Every Sunday there's a links post.
- Messy Nessy Chic - Every week she posts 13 Things I Found on the Internet Today.
- Neatorama
- MetaFilter
- kottke.org
- Curious About Everything - Monthly links newsletter.
- Tacky Raccoons - Links post every Sunday. All the other sites I follow have descriptions with their links but this site just has the link. Not sure if I like that or not but that's how they roll.
- Perfect for Roquefort Cheese - Links posts throughout the week
- webcurios - Weekly collection of all kinds of links although it's on hiatus until after the holidays.
Most of these I follow through RSS but with MetaFilter and webcurios I actually go to the site. Did you find something new to follow? Did you already know about these sites? Is there a site that provides a wonderful buffet of links that you follow that I don't have listed? Let me know!
Listening
Some podcasts I've listened to this week:
Reading
Last week I was reading The Arrangement by Madeline Hunter and I finished that. It was a decent story and I enjoyed it. I'm now reading another book by Madeline Hunter, The Protector. This book follows a character introduced in the one I just finished, so same time period but slightly different area (first one was set in England, this one is, I think, going to mostly be in Brittany). I appreciate that on her website, the author has suggested reading guides in both publication order or chronological order (which is how I'm reading this series).
I've also tried circling back to Pratchett's Soul Music but it is so obnoxiously punny that I'm really not enjoying it. I might DNF that one.
Watching
I finished my PBS Walter Presents drama I was watching, The Drought (Sequia). It was really good! Now maybe I'll get back to some Crusade.
Well, this feels like a short one but it's about all I have this week. I'm distracted - I found some more good bad jokes I want to add to my new Jokes page I put up earlier this week. And I have a kitty to play with!
When I first started using Zonelets I had Disqus set up as a commenting system but it looked obnoxiously ugly and I ditched it. Some people are happy to not have blog interaction but I'd love to hear from you if you have any thoughts you want to share! You can respond through my guestbook or email. If you found this link on Discord or the 32-Bit Cafe Discourse, you can message me there or leave a message on my Neocities profile page.
