- Defiant nuns flee care home for their abandoned convent in the Alps - I love a good spicy nun story! 3 octogenarian nuns were shipped off to a care home after their convent was taken over by the Archdiocese of Salzburg and the Reichersberg Abbey. They were supposed to have lifetime right of residence but they found themselves sent to the care home instead. Not liking this situation one bit, they fled the care home and returned to their convent. Locks had been changed and electricity and water were turned off but, with the help of former students, the nuns got back into their convent, where they are still are, with townspeople helping them by bringing them food and groceries. The nuns are refusing to leave again. I think the Church is just going to have to wait this one out!

Ceelo the kitty had his last visit with me on Monday. He'll be coming back over on Friday to spend the weekend with me while his mama is out of town. He settled down after a while and seemed to enjoy his time here although, honestly, I think he might be a little confused at the weekly visits. At least he's a fairly chill kitty and is just going with the flow. I am looking forward to some quality watching-TV-with-the-cat time!

Reading
So last week I finished the 5th in a space opera series by CJ Cherryh and, while I'm enjoying my romp through Union-Alliance space, I was also getting kind of burned out. I wasn't really sure what I was in the mood to read and I ended up kind of falling into some medieval English history. I've had The Plantagenets: The Warrior Kings and Queens Who Made England by Dan Jones on my e-reader for quite a while. This is such a well-written and engaging history!
Possibly unpopular opinion: I'm tired of the Tudors having such an outsized presence in media. Sometimes it seems that's the only dynasty you ever see represented and there is so much more history than just that one period! And the Plantagenets were wild - there is SO much story there! I mean, yes, we have Lion in Winter and I guess you could count the many iterations of Robin Hood but seriously - there is so much material to work with! I'm about halfway through this book, almost to the end of Edward I's reign.
Someone suggested Terry Pratchett books since I wanted a change of pace from space opera. That suggestion reminded me that I bought a Humble Bundle of his books a while ago and they're on the e-reader. They've gotten pushed to the back of my library by everything else I've got on there and I kind of forget about them. If I'm not in the mood for more space opera by the time I'm done with the Plantagenets then I'll look through what I've got. I know I've read Mort and possibly another book featuring Death and also Wyrd Sisters and The Colour of Magic. I'm sure I've read more than that but I can't remember which ones.
Watching
I have just finished season 4 episode 6 of Babylon 5 and a big story arc has concluded. At what point did JMS think the show was going to be cancelled and had to wrap things up quickly? Because there are still 16 episodes to go and the surprise 5th season they didn't think they were going to get. Just seems like a lot of extra episodes to have to find story for.
I'm acting like I've never watched the show before, but I did when it originally aired. But that was decades ago! I just don't remember plot points for a whole series from that long ago. I guess the positive to the leaky memory is that it makes the rewatch even more exciting since it's all mostly new to me again. Even though I watched the whole original series back in the day, I have never seen Crusade or any of the follow-up movies, so I have those to look forward to once I'm done with the original series.
That's about it for now! There will probably be a tiara post sometime mid-week.
