So this will count as my final Blaugust post. All told I wrote 5 regular weekly blog posts and 8 Blaugust specials. This was my first time participating in the event. My goal for doing it was to get out the little stories that never quite make it into the weekly post.

I did get some things written but I lost steam early on because I was also working on a code jam entry and it got to be a bit much for me. I didn't write as much as I had planned and I still have a lot of prompts so I don't know. Maybe I'll do short posts between the weekly ones. Maybe I'll just tack them into the weekly one. I just didn't want the weekly wrap up to get ungodly long.

One thing that did come of this experience is that there will for sure be a new blog series about tiaras (and possibly other jewels)! I've said before that this was almost a tiara blog. I wrote 2 tiara posts (Tiaras and The Albanian Goat Tiaras) during Blaugust and that just got me enthused all over again for showcasing sparklies. Actually, I have the next one already in the works!

Last week I mentioned I was going to have a kitty visitor. His mom is travelling at the end of the month and she needs someone to watch him who can give him his insulin shot. There are reasons we thought it would work out better for him to stay with me rather than me going to her house (mainly my bad hips and her house's stairs). She thought he would do well since he's her social butterfly kitty.

Well, he didn't do bad but he was confused and not entirely happy with the situation. He spent a lot of time meowing at the patio door and computer room window. It was like he could see the Outside and knew that home was somewhere on the other side of the Outside and he really wanted to be there. He did flop down on the floor a couple times and got some pets but eventually he ended up climbing underneath my couch and his mama had to fish him out.

The plan is to do weekly visits and hopefully he'll get more used to the idea of being here. I think part of his problem might also have been that the only place he's ever been driven to is the vet so maybe once he realizes there isn't anything vet-related at my house, he'll calm down. He wasn't terribly interested in treats this first visit but maybe I'll try to get something good like tube treats and see if I can create some positive connections.

Are you into dinosaurs? I'm a casual dinosaur enthusiast. They're super cool! One blog that I read is Prehistoric Pulp which does reviews of dino related fiction. I was checking out the link section and found Prehistoric Times Magazine, a quarterly magazine for the dinosaur enthusiast.

My curiosity was piqued and I ordered a copy. I was so blown away by it! This is for people who are serious about their dinosaurs! There were a couple of articles on collecting, a section for reader-submitted art, articles about paleo imagery and art, 2 articles about specific dinosaurs, Torvosauras and Peltephilus, the 2nd of a 4 part series on how to draw Stegosaurus. And there were so many ads! I am so surprised at all the businesses that cater to the dinosaur enthusiast. Even though I'm just a dino casual, I might see if I can swing a subscription to this magazine. It's that good!

Listening

Some podcasts I listened to this past week:

Reading

I finished 2 books this past week in CJ Cherryh's Company Wars series: Merchanter's Luck and Rimrunners. I've just started on Heavy Time. In this book, a pilot wakes up without his memory and his crew missing. He's accused of murder and a renegade miner helps him learn the truth. I think I've said it before, these are novels in a shared universe but they don't follow one another.

Watching

I am up to episode 16 in season 3 of my Babylon 5 rewatch. We just lost Kosh, Morden stuck it to Londo when he tried to slip out of the Shadows' grasp and Dr. Franklin came to grips with his stim addiction.

I haven't been watching any other series - I'm either waiting for some to start back up (Big Cats 24/7 on PBS!) or I've lost interest in some (Madame Blanc mysteries on Acorn).

I've been watching a lot of videos from the Historic Royal Palaces YouTube channel this week. Some are about cooking, some are about clothing and some are about architecture! It's such a wonderful rabbit hole of stuff!

All righty, that's it for this week!
