- The 1,000 Year History of the Strap-On - It hasn't been around for only 1,000 years, that's just the scope of time this article covers. Interesting historical tidbits from the 11th and 15th centuries as well as its appearance in modern pop culture.
- Why Does Switzerland Have so Many Bunkers? - Short answer is because since 1963 Switzerland has required them to be built in all new buildings. With the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, a requirement that had begun to seem unnecessary has suddenly taken on new interest.
- 50 Poster Sensations (1994) - You can Google translate this entry if your German is not up to par but really I'm sharing this link so you can look at all the wonderful 90's-ness of these posters. Dolphins, horses, sports cars, vaporwave skies - feast your eyes!

I finished this little retro angler fish a while ago but I was waiting to show her off because I had an idea to make her lure actually light up. I used a tiny LED light from Evan Designs. It was overwhelmingly bright so I toned it down with some yellow nail polish. I think it came out looking pretty neat! I put it in a hoop temporarily just to take pictures and see how it would look. Now I have another idea to make a frame for her that looks like a porthole! If I actually get around to making it (because I'm really good with ideas, not so much with execution), I'll post pictures.
Currently I'm working on another video game cat cross stitch, Catris.
Listening
Some podcasts I've listened to this week:
- You're Dead to Me - Cuneiform
- Hyperfixed - A Slice of Hope (Premium episode)
- Wait Wait Don't Tell Me - Ibithaj Muhammad
Every now and then I'll check out what's on Bandcamp. I found this 80s/synthwave/chiptune/game soundtrack EP and it's going on my wishlist:
Reading
I finished The Mummy Case and have started reading the 4th book in the Amelia Peabody series, Lion in the Valley. We're up to about 1895/1896 and Amelia, her husband Emerson and their extremely precocious 8 year old son, Ramses, are once again in Egypt. I have plenty of books on my library wishlist and was contemplating reading something else but I'm still feeling the Victorian Egyptian mysteries so I'll continue to go with that vibe.
Watching
I was going through my "Watch Later" playlist on YouTube, where I frequently save cool stuff and then promptly forget I put it there. I came across a sci-fi short by Blackmilk Studios called Ice. It's part of a 6 episode anthology. I was kind of unimpressed with that one - thought it had potential but the CGI was kind of crap and it was just goofy. But I went ahead and watched the other shorts in the series and wow, that was a journey! I went from meh to ooo to poignant longing to whoa! and ended with a proper horror moment. If you like sci-fi, if you liked Black Mirror or Tales from the Loop or maybe even Love Death Robots, give this a try!
I watched Walking with Dinosaurs on PBS and that was pretty awesome. I never watched the original series from 25 years ago and at first I didn't think I was going to be into this one very much. I started watching, though, just to have something on while I cross-stitched and ended up really liking it! Each episode features a particular dinosaur which they name and you follow it through its particular journey. The show switches back and forth between the dinosaur story and current day paleontologists digging up the bones. You get some story, you get some science - it's pretty neat!
The Babylon 5 rewatch continues - I've watched up to and including season 1 episode 12,"TKO." Honestly, that last one was kind of a boring episode. Garibaldi helps an old friend with an alien fighting ring and Ivanova deals with her father's death.
That's it for this week!
