- 10K Drum Machines - a collection of web-based drum machines. Currently there are 24. Fun to play with (I like the Boot and Cats one) and if you have an idea of your own for a drum machine, he accepts submissions!
- A Pink Refrigerator Stands in the Middle of the Desert - I love the quirkiness of this. The Namibia Tourism Board has erected a solar-powered pink refrigerator stocked with cold drinks in the middle of nowhere. I love stumbling upon unexpected things like this.
- The Herds - I thought this was so cool and I wish I could see it live. From April to August, a herd of life-size puppet animals will be making a journey from the Congo to the Arctic Circle, fleeing climate disaster. It's part art project, part climate action initiative.
- The Surrealist Compliment Generator - Here's a bonus link for you! For those times when you need to figure out how to say something really special. Or really obtuse.

I stitched up another quick project - a kitty license plate! This is stitched on 16 count white Aida and the pattern is Cats For Life from CatvsCute on Etsy. It's not very big, just about 5"x 2.5" (about 13cm x 6.4cm for the rest of the world). It would be super cute if I could actually find some kind of mini license plate frame. I did a brief internet search and didn't find anything that would work. I'll probably look for some kind of silvery metallic frame.
I had the new air conditioner installed on Tuesday and the new oven delivered yesterday.
I spent absolutely forever researching ovens and, when I finally thought I knew what I wanted and was ready to order, it was out of stock. I didn't want to wait so I went through my other choices and picked another one. I almost went with an induction unit but they are more expensive than electric and I would have had to replace cookware. The oven I did get is SO FANCY compared to my 40 year old, completely analog old oven. Apparently I can cook 15 different ways (including slow cooking and dehydrating). It's a little bit mind-boggling! I am nervous about the ceramic glass cooktop. I am such a klutz and I'm worried I might end up dropping something heavy, like a cast-iron pan, and breaking it.
Listening
Some podcasts I've been listening to this past week:
I found out about the Quantum Quest movie saga through another podcast I listen to, Hyperfixed. The OG Quantum Quest podcast was made in 2022 and I'm halfway through it. This story is just bonkers and I highly recommend it!
Reading
Last week I had started on Crystal Rain by Tobias Buckell and I'm about halfway through it. I am really enjoying this book even though at first I felt a little lost because there was no setup prior to being thrown in the story. The author calls it a Caribbean steampunk novel and it is but there's also sci-fi and mythology mixed in.
Watching
I'm continuing my journey through Babylon 5. Next episode I'll be watching is season 1 episode 9 "Dreamwalker." I love B5. It's so good! It was also good when it was Deep Space 9.
I haven't been watching a whole lot of actual TV shows other than B5 but here are a couple of YouTube videos from the past week:
- What Ancient Waste Systems Reveal About City Life was an interesting look not only into what "waste" is (it's not just sewage!) but how waterworks and waste management are also methods of land and population control.
- I Spent 30 Days in a Dead MMO (and it was amazing) - This ended up being such a sweet and heartwarming story! Check out the comments because some of the people from the video have left messages.
That's it for this week!
