I try to keep a positive outlook and not be too doomy about things but, man, this week, as an American, has been rough. I'm beginning to feel like this:

I've tried to not focus too much on what's going on. I muted any accounts on Bluesky that are political (mainly those are the alt gov sites I follow like Rogue Nasa, Alt IRS, Alt National Parks, etc) so my feed would be mainly just cats. And I removed Reddit as a bookmark and have stayed away from news sites. I read the paper (digitally) in the morning and I was trying to keep it to that. But you know what? I'm my own worst enemy. It's like picking at a scab. I still find myself going to the alt gov accounts and going to Reddit anyway, bookmark or no. It's like I really want to watch this trainwreck.

I did do a couple of things that I felt were positive in that at least I was doing something and not just doomscrolling. I wrote to my 2 Democratic senators. I even wrote to my very MAGA Congressional House Representative. I also wrote to the local newspaper and a couple of local news outlets informing them of a nationwide protest at all the state capitols that will be happening on Wednesday. Don't get an older person upset - they will write you a fucking letter.

I do hope the news about the protest gets some traction. I am pretty sure that my Democratic senators will just offer platitudes and the MAGA representative will probably completely ignore me because I am not MAGA. But you know what? At least I did something, and that made me feel a little less like Kermit.

Listening

Couple of interesting podcasts I listened to this week:

Reading

I finished up the Diane Duane series I was reading. My son loaned me a book but warned me I might not like it. Bunny by Mona Awad. It was So. Fucking. Weird. I actually had to look up an explanation afterwards to find out what in the hell was going on with it. Now that I've finished that I've started Death on the Tiber by Lindsey Davis, the 14th book in the Flavia Alba mystery series set in ancient Rome.

Watching

I watched the entire second season of Silo in 2 days. No regrets. It was awesome!

Watched a really cool YouTube video from LGR about the history of the marine aquarium screensaver. I first started watching because I miss the screensavers we had back in the day. And then I was surprised to find this is the screen saver used on Roku TVs! I use that quite often - it's so relaxing to look at. Anyway, this screensaver has a fascinating history going back to the Amiga/Commodore 64 days.

I've also been having fun watching a new to me YouTube channel, Real Vintage Dolls House. The majority of this channel is about the 1940s lifestyle. She bought a house and turned it into a wonderfully cozy vintage home. There are videos explaining the process of getting the house from what it looked like when they bought it to what it looks like today. There are also videos on 1940s ration eating and recipes in general, beauty and fashion. It's the kind of vibes I can use right now.

All right, it's getting late so I'm going to get this posted. See you all next week!
