Let's start off with a couple of links!
- Dookie Demastered - I have Warning on my iPod but I'm not a huge Green Day fan. However, I just love what they've done with this. They rerecorded their album, Dookie, onto obsolete (and sometimes just weird) formats. Floppy disk, x-ray record, electric toothbrush, a doorbell. It's such an inventive thing to do!
- Only Visit Once - Meet a fellow wanderer taking shelter under a tree during a stormy night. He asks you a question: What is one piece of advice you would give your past self? You can write your advice or read what others have written. Or both. But once you leave, you can't go back!
I've done two weeks of physical therapy, trying to get my hips in some kind of working order. I think it's working - the pain is still there but less intense. My PT tried to increase the exercises but that ended up really hurting so he backed off and said we're just going to go really slow. I've been considering making an appointment with an ortho just to discuss the situation. I've got a name - one of my coworkers recommended him so maybe I'll do that. I would just like to be pain free and be able to walk around to do stuff, like see museum exhibits. Right now just doing the bare amount of necessary things, like the weekly grocery shopping, is a challenge.
Speaking of grocery shopping, the bargain DVD bin was still out at the Winco (I split my shopping between there for household things and stuff that's boxed/bottled/canned. I go to a bougie natural foods store for the fresh food.) today. I found 3 DVDs to add to the collection:
- A Call to Spy - As Great Britain's forces were stretched thin during World War II, Windston Churchill's Special Operations Executive began to enlist woman as spies.
- Robin Hood -Season One - This is a BBC series from 2006. I don't recall ever seeing it but the box promises "Zippy mindless fun", which sometimes is exactly what a person needs.
- Godzilla King of the Monsters - This is the 2019 film with Kyle Chandler and Millie Bobbie Brown. The DVD has some featurettes including Mothra: Queen of the Monsters which I am looking forward to watching!
Reading
I've been feeling scatter-brained lately so I haven't been able to concentrate very much on reading. Last week I was reading a library book, Spells for Forgetting, but what I was really interested in was the third book in the Feline Wizards series. I tried to keep reading it but have you ever been reading something when you really wanted to be reading something else? I eventually caved and started reading that other book, The Big Meow. My library loan has ended but the wifi on my e-reader is currently turned off so the library book is there to go back to - as long as I don't turn on the wifi. It's Schrödinger's library book!
Watching
I found a delightful show on PBS, Carmen Curlers, a Danish series set in the 60s all about the invention and introduction of hot curlers. Are any of you reading this old enough to have experienced hot curlers? I can remember burning my fingers on the hot edges when curling my own hair and if my mom was rolling my hair sometimes she'd do it so tight the pointy nubs of the curler would dig into my scalp. Fun times!
I have also started watching season 4 of Slow Horses. I just finished the second episode tonight. This is such a great show! I may have said that, well, multiple times before. But it is! You should give it a try!
I always think I'm going to get my blog post done early on Sunday and I always find myself banging it out at the end of the night. It's 10:15 and I'm just waiting for a load of clothes in the dryer to finish before heading off to bed. I'm going to try reading a bit once I get settled in bed but what usually happens is I start reading, fall asleep and then wake up when the e-reader hits me in the face.
