Well, it has been a hot minute since I've posted something, hasn't it? Here's a little roundup of what's been going on and things I've been contemplating doing:

Holidays

I work in healthcare which means I end up working through the holidays a lot. This year I was on call Thanksgiving night, was supposed to work Christmas Day (scanner went down so I didn't go in but we had made alternate plans so Christmas Day I spent alone with the cats) and was on call New Year's Eve. I didn't feel like I got a "holiday season" since it was all just work. I did at least get to have a post-holiday dinner with the family the week after Christmas. My family unit consists of my former mother-in-law (who is like my second mom), her husband, my son, his girlfriend, her daughter and occasionally her niece as well (although not for this dinner). I don't really like hosting but my second mom can't handle it anymore and despite not liking hosting I treasure the time we have together as a family.

Cats

The last couple of blog posts have been about Maya and her health issues. She is doing well at the moment. I can feel that her mammary tumor is getting larger but it doesn't seem to be causing her any pain at all, she's still moving well and eating well and being just generally herself. She has been coughing a little bit lately and that worries me since the cancer is in her lungs, too, but I'll be keeping an eye on that.

Celine is skinnier than I'd like her to be. I think she's about 6 pounds. She does eat well but she's very picky. It has to be a paté or she doesn't want to eat it. And sometimes the food she liked last week she doesn't like this week which is such a typical cat thing. I'm still giving her thyroid medication twice a day and even though she really likes the treats she gets after the meds, she still does her best to fight me and spit out the pill. She's got arthritis in her hips so I've invested in some cat heating pads which she does seem to enjoy.

Godzilla

When my son was in grade school, we spent one summer watching all the James Bond movies. This was a long time ago so we did this old school by renting videos from one of the local stores. We even asked advice from one of the workers who was so excited about Bond movies and helped us rent the movies in order. So, along that line, I'd like to watch all the Godzilla movies. I have been watching Monarch Legacy of Monsters and quite enjoying it. And while I'm not a Godzilla afficinado, I do enjoy the films and have watched some of them through the years. The day of the local video store with the helpful employees is long gone but I do have this PC Mag article that I will be using as my guide. Not sure if I'm going to have a dedicated Godzilla section on the site or throw this in the shrines section or just as separate blog posts. We'll see!

Website

I have thoughts and ideas on what I want to do with the site.

I am going to meld the About Me and Interests sections and I've already got that ready to go for when I take down the seasonal theme and revert to the standard look.

I was thinking about not only keeping a reading log again this year but trying to say a little something about each book. I really admire all the people who not only keep logs but give reviews and sometimes even stars! There will be no stars, people. But there might be blurbs.

I've also been thinking about making a graphics-free version of my site. I think I have a lot of cool info that isn't dependent on graphics. But the graphics are so cool! But a graphics-free version might be easier for people not on a regular computer or even for people who may have trouble with moving images. This is something I've been thinking about for a while and I still haven't gotten around to it. But maybe this will be the year. Or not.

I would really like to have a comments section other than the guestbook on the site. I tried Disqus a while ago and didn't really like it. Now I'm looking at this comment widget and thinking that might be a solution to my comment section desires. The other option that seemed most doable for me was to use HTML Comment Box.

I'm going to wrap up this post before it gets too long. Until next time!
