So in my last blog post both kitties had things going on. Both of them visited the vet this past week.

Surprisingly Celine's thyroid levels have actually gone down since the last time she had bloodwork (she was at 2.6, now she's at 1.6, normal is between 0.3-3.0) so that's NOT what's causing her gastrointestinal issues. The vet thinks this is a totally separate issue and put her on a 7 day course of Metronidazole (Flagyl). We're on day 3 of this and it kind of sucks because it's only a 1/4 pill but it's a really big chunk so both hard to get down her and easier for her to try and spit out. Plus she still needs her thyroid meds twice a day so that's 3 pillings a day. And, unfortunately, until we get this under control she is also needing regular tail cleanings, which are extra hard to get done since now every time she sees me coming for her she assumes she's getting pilled. Ugh. My poor girl. We're both tired of this! She did have some excessive hunger as well, which is a typical hyperthyroid symptom but the vet kind of hand waved that off. Considering her numbers have gone down like they should, maybe she just really likes her food all of a sudden? I don't know. Cats be weird.

Celine has one eye open because she sensed I was coming to pill her. And I was. I just needed to get a cute picture first.

Oh, Miss Maya! I was dreading getting that lump checked out because I just knew it wasn't anything good and I was right. She has mammary tumors. I felt a lump kind of in her armpit but the vet found some other smaller lumps down in the lower belly area (which I did not notice because that's a forbidden area which Maya lets me know with teeth and claws). 80% of the time these tumors are malignant and the recommendation is surgery. She is getting a radical mastectomy on the left side (all the glands are being removed). I don't know how it is anywhere else but here in my area there is a shortage of vets and usually long wait times to get in for anything. I was surprised I got my girls in the same week I called. Anyway, between that and my work schedule (I want to be able to take some time off to watch her post-surgery) we weren't able to get her surgery date until November 2. I feel bad waiting that long but I also feel like my hands are tied and I can't really do anything about that.

Maya is waiting for me to finish taking pictures so she can go back to sleep.

So, I'm not going to say it's been a crappy weekend but ... I've had better.
